Company Announcement

Contino is pleased to announce that Gary DiOrio has joined as the U.S. President and board advisor. He will be responsible for leading the fast-growing U.S. region.

Gary’s background includes 35 years of consulting experience focused on implementing “high-growth, application technology” including SAP, Oracle, and SalesForce.

“I’ve grown up in this business,” he said. “I was a consultant for the first half of my career, and now for the last 20 years, I have been leading consulting practices, specifically in cutting-edge technology areas.”

Previously, he was President of the SalesForce division of Cloud Sherpas, a cloud consultancy that was sold to Accenture in 2015. He stayed on as a Managing Director at Accenture before leaving to focus on advising startups and early-stage companies in the technology sector.

Matt Farmer, Contino Co-founder and CEO, said Gary is an invaluable addition to the global leadership team: “We’re incredibly excited for Gary to lead and grow the U.S. region. He has a tremendous track record, and being able to gain the background and leadership experience he has in high-growth services is a huge win for Contino.”

True Partners

Gary brings a strong focus on customer success and a history of mutually beneficial partner relationships.

“The previous companies I’ve led were also very high growth, and part of an ecosystem of partners created by a leading technology provider. Being a 'true partner' is part of what differentiates you. As in any successful relationship - it is built on working together to solve problems, building trust and helping each other succeed.” Gary said.

According to Gary, it’s a unique value proposition where there are multiple winners.

“It’s very compelling, because at Contino, we can help our clients accelerate their time to market. We can say that with confidence, and that is something that differentiates us from the bigger, slower-to-move, consulting companies,” he said.

The Art of Growth

He acknowledges there will always be growing pains in a young company, but that comes with the territory. “The practice is rapidly growing, so there is delicate balance because you must always deliver with excellence while bringing in new talent and getting them up to speed. There's a bit of an art to it all - you have to be bold,” he said.

That’s something that should benefit Contino, he said: “If it's new, the market is naturally constrained. Contino exists because the big firms don’t know how to do this like we do.”

He also stressed the importance of open communication and transparency in a growing business. “You keep an ear to the ground, but you should also constantly be asking people what they need to be successful and what can make them more successful? It’s simple sometimes and doesn’t always have to be very scientific,” he said.

Choosing Contino

After retiring from Accenture in January, he wasn’t sure he would venture back to an operational role, but some old friends helped make the decision easier.

Contino is backed by Columbia Capital, a firm Gary knows well from his days at Cloud Sherpas.

“I’ve been involved with Columbia Capital for the past 10 years or so, and I consider myself part of that Columbia Capital family. I have a huge amount of respect for them,” Gary said. “They're always on the edge of new technology trends and they specialize in services companies.”

Gary has decades of experience in this industry, but he’s taking more and more joy in developing talent and enabling people to grow and succeed.

“If you do it right, you see people's careers take off. It’s unbelievable,” he said. “And in a high-growth company, you need people to constantly step up to the next level because you can't always bring people in from the outside to take on leadership positions. I've seen people take off like a rocket,” he said creating a trail in the air with his finger. “It’s a beautiful thing when you see it. To me, that’s better than the paycheck.”

Gary is looking forward to the next step of Contino’s journey – and he’s excited to be a part of it.

“I’ve been in this business a while,” he said. “And there’s definitely something special here.”
